About Highlands

Highlands Elementary is one of six elementary schools within the nationally recognized Edina Public Schools district.

Highlands provides a personalized learning experience for students K-5 with opportunities that include a nature based learning, makers space, and student leadership.

Recent building enhancements have created flexible learning spaces where we offer students creative and innovative opportunities to learn core standards, as well as to grow personally in understanding themselves and how they learn best. We work to engage all students in the process of learning by having high expectations for all and providing support that helps students achieve at their highest potential.

Building Relationships

Highlands believes long-term relationships between staff, students and families are critical to a child’s educational success. Highlands is one of two schools in the district that offers a Continuous Progress (CP) program, where students learn in multi-grade cohorts called “families” and remain together for four years (2-5).

Highlands also has the Discovery program which includes "looping" for grades 2-3 and 4-5. This is a single grade program that allows students and teachers to know each other better by staying with the same teacher and students for two years at a time.

Our students work cooperatively to understand and encourage one another. We emphasize positive attitudes that will enhance student success academically and socially throughout life. At Highlands we celebrate diversity and cultivate a safe and respectful environment where all students will learn, thrive and feel welcome every day.
